NEW METHOD OF RODENT CONTROL IS BEING TESTED!
Rodent exterminating products haven’t seen much change for many years but a company out of Flagstaff Arizona has been testing a totally unique type of product that could be used for rodent control. Their theory is based on the birthing rate of rats. You see rats are very fertile, giving birth to up to 12 pups per litter and having as many as 7 litters per year. Their goal is not to wipe out the rat population but to diminish it in a given area; I will explain why they don’t want to eliminate all rats in a later posting in our Blog. They started off by running tests to find the preferred foods of rats in the area they are testing their product and then developed bait laced with their birth control products that the rats would eat.
According to SenesTech, it has no effect on humans or any other critters. The company says,” When consumed orally by rats, it accelerates egg loss in female’s rats and “can cause infertility in days”.
Currently, SenesTech , has received several grants to test their rat control product and currently have a trail going on in the New York City subway system. I contacted the company to inquire about their product but they told me they are gathering data from their testing locations and won’t have any results until early 2015.
Since I have been successfully exterminating rats since right before dirt was invented, I think I have a pretty good understanding of rat behavior and rat control but I am not closed minded to new concepts. Therefore, I am waiting to see the results SenesTech comes up with.
I am currently working on a post for you Do It Your Self people that will talk about rat behavior and how to handle a rat problems around your home.
