Cockroaches can live up to a week after decapitation. They can survive weeks without eating.
Cockroaches have six legs, but they also have eighteen knee joints. Bacteria settle into the hairs on these.
Cockroaches have been clocked at over 3 MPH. If a cockroach were the size of a human, their top speed would be over 200 MPH. Cockroaches can sense the slightest changes in air movement and react within hundredths of a second.
Cockroaches mate one time; the female stores the male’s sperm throughout her twelve-month lifespan and uses it on an as-needed basis, producing up to 400 offspring.
Cockroaches are able to eat virtually anything for food, including paper, glue, soap, leather, even hair.
A cockroach cannot live longer than a week without water.
Termites are a close genetic cousin of cockroaches.
The only way to eliminate cockroaches is by killing them at their source –
Studies have shown that cockroaches break wind on the average of every 15 minutes. Even after death they will continue to release methane for up to 18 hours. My research indicates that the other major contributors due to gastronomical acoustics are termites and cows
Cockroaches accumulate bacteria and viruses in the cracks and crevices of their bodies. A few of the bacteria found between the cuticle and the gut of the roaches are E. coli, various species of Salmonella, Staphylcoccous, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneuoniae. The bacteria cause diseases such as urinary tract infection, diarrhea, pneumonia, cholera, polio, septicemia and wound infections.
One study shows the bacterial count on a cockroach to be as high as 14 million microbes found on the exterior of the bodies and 7 million in their fecal droppings.
